Blessing #31 - Hats

Anyone born and reared in south Florida understands the importance of hats.  My mother never allowed me out of the house without a hat, and the habit of wearing one is so firmly instilled into my subconscious I continue to always wear my hat even at 71.  As a little girl they were the straw ones with the round bill and a bow in the back, and that style continues to be my favorite.  I love baseball caps, too, and wear them much of the time, but if I am dressed in my “go to work” clothes, I wear one of my straw hats. For this square,  I put the bow on the side because if I had put in in the back it would have been nonexistent.  Also, I do wear glasses, I do have blue eyes, and I do have gray hair, but my eyes do NOT bulge as they appear in this square. You talk about “primitive” art, well, my embroidery is pretty darn primitive :-). I chose the quote below because all of my days are special.  I just didn’t know it was because I always wear my hat!

“Whenever you wear your hat, your day will be special.”
~Margo Nickel

Some people look great in hats - I am not one of them!

Lucky you - I think they add flair to an outfit!

They also keep the sun OFF of my face :-) My hats are as much a part of me as my eyes...I just can;t do without them.

How cute! Love your stitch - so complicated too! Sadly, I haven't yet found a hat that looks good on me..ahah...

I love hats but don't like to wear them. I lived in Naples FL for a number of years - where did you grow up?

Oh, my mama looked precious in hats of any kind and my daughter looks just like a movie star in ANY hat..I put one on and look like a complete DORK....I wonder why? Not a very good shaped face, I guess.
I still wear them...my favorite is a black cap with GOT WINE in white...love it and wear it on the lake and etc....
My straws are the ones I wear while working in the yard.

I love your little square. I am so not crafty..TALENTLESS !!

I am not a hat wearer. Some of the ladies in our church still do. However, most of us are seniors which might explain it.

Hi Genie,

I love, love your embroidery. I think the free form designs are the best. :0)

Thanks so much for visiting with me for PiNk Saturday and for your kind comments on my blog design and my red hat. Yes, that hat would look grand on you!

Have a wonderful day,
Stephanie ♥

I don't like to wear a hat actually. I sweat a lot and hat always ruins my hair style and make it stick to my scalp. So whenever I put the hat off, I will look like a sad wet cat with sweat all over my forehead LoL
But your hat looks cute :)

When I am in Australia I always wear a hat for the sunlight is really dangerous there. My daughter even swims in T-shirts with long sleeves. So hats are great!
Thanks for your visit.

I love this! will have to look back through the rest of your blog. I love crazy quilting and making up the embroidery for that, so I know what a lot of work this was. I also like hats, but don't wear them because I look terrible in them. I remember wearing them for church and to go downtown shopping in Indianapolis. I used to wear hats to church even long after other women quit, just because I liked them. I never wear a hat now, even in the sun.

OMG this is the cutest little embroidered lady I have ever seen. I have always wanted to try to embroider and messed around with it a bit as a girl but not lately. This has inspired me! Too cute. xo
