Counting My Blessings - The Beginning

Well, my name appeared on the master list today, so I am now a member of the group participating in this wonderful project. My first task was to begin sketching the layout for some of the blessings I want to include in the collection.

My fabric has been marked off into 100 - 1 inch squares, and I’ve started  my embroidery over the lines.  Unfortunately, in the 5 hours since I marked it with my Dritz Disappearing Ink pen, the ink has started disappearing.  Next time I will use a pencil. For now I am just remarking the areas as they disappear.

Being that I have not done anything other than cross-stitch, knitting, sewing, and quilting over the past 40 years, this is going to be quite the undertaking for me.  Most of my books have to do with my other undertakings, but this Christmas my daughter’s mother-in-law gave me an old book from 1947 entitled  The Good Housekeeping Needlecraft Encyclopedia by Alice Carroll. Then just a week or so ago I bought Sublime Stitching by Jenny Hart. Thanks to these two books I have been able to refresh my memory of some of the stitches so now I feel like I am ready to start the "I’m Stitchingalong."  All of my floss is OLD just like moi, but it is going to be just fine. All I was able to dig up was one small, wooden hoop for which I feel most thankful.  Because it was there for me when I really needed it, it will be my first little square.  Without it I wouldn’t be able to do my project, so it truly is a blessing.
